IF YOU ARE CHANGING TO WINTER TYRES DON’T FORGET TO TORQUE THE WHEEL NUTS
Many drivers in Europe will soon start to change to winter tyres. This tendency is due to the change in weather conditions within the continent: When temperatures reach below 7ºC, approximately, Winter rubber performs better in snow, slush or iced roads. Winter tyres offer up to three times the grip of a summer tyre in snowy conditions.
“To ensure vehicle and passenger safety it is very important to torque the wheel nuts” commented recently Philip Brodey, expert in torque. “Tyre fitters should ensure that their torque wrenches are calibrated and in good working order. They must be ready for the increased demand, particularly if we get a cold snap in the coming weeks.”
